Artificial rockwork allows dramatic natural environments to be created in locations where real stone would be impractical, unsafe or impossible to install. At Unreal Productions we design and construct highly realistic artificial rock formations for a wide range of environments including visitor attractions, themed landscapes, wildlife habitats, gardens and architectural spaces.
Each project is individually designed and sculpted to replicate the character, texture and geological features of natural rock. Realistic Rock Work Built For
Long-Term Durability
Our artificial rock structures are built using a reinforced internal framework and specialist cementitious coatings designed for strength and longevity.
The process typically begins with a steel armature which establishes the overall structure and form of the rock formation. This framework is covered with steel mesh before receiving a structural coat of glass fibre reinforced concrete (GFRC), creating a robust shell that forms the foundation of the sculpture.
Once the structure coat has cured, the surface is hand-carved and sculpted to develop the natural fissures, strata and textures found in real rock formations. A final detail coat refines these surfaces before colouring and finishing techniques are applied to achieve the appearance of natural stone.
Where appropriate, expanded polystyrene (EPS) foam may also be incorporated to efficiently form large volumes or complex shapes before the structural coatings are applied.
This combination of sculptural techniques and reinforced materials allows artificial rock environments to remain stable, weather-resistant and visually convincing for many years.

Every artificial rock installation created by Unreal Productions is individually sculpted and coloured by hand. Careful attention is given to the geological character of the rock being replicated, including its layers, fractures, weathering patterns and surface textures.
